Chapter 4 — Sarvamatma

Aṣṭāvakra said: Ah! There can be no comparison between the wise knower of the Self, who moves through the world playfully and enjoys whatever comes as a mere sport, and the deluded people who are carried away by the current of Saṃsāra.

The state which even Indra (Śakra) and all the other gods long to attain with great yearning— ah! the Yogī, established in that very state, does not become elated or excited by it.

For the knower of Truth, there is no inner contact with either merit (Puṇya) or demerit (Pāpa). Just as space is not truly affected by smoke, even though smoke may appear within it.

Who could possibly restrain that great soul who has realized that this entire universe is nothing but the Self, and who moves through life spontaneously, according to what comes of its own accord?

Among all beings—from Brahmā down to the smallest blade of grass, and among the four kinds of embodied creatures— only the truly wise possess the power to remain free from both desire and aversion.

Rare indeed is the one who realizes the non-dual Self as the Lord of the universe. Whatever such a one understands to be right, that he does. For him, there is fear nowhere whatsoever.
