आघ्रातं मरणेन जन्म जरया विद्युच्चलं यौवनं
सन्तोषो धनलिप्सया शमसुखं प्रौढाङ्गनाविभ्रमैः ।
लोकैर्मत्सरिभिर्गुणा वनभुवो व्यालैर्नृपा दुर्जनैः
अस्थैर्येण विभूतिरप्यपहृता ग्रस्तं न किं केन वा ।।
।। इति वैराग्य शतकम् ।।
भर्तृहरिविरचितम् (शतकत्रय)समाप्त ।।
Birth has been consumed by death, old age has consumed the fickle youth like lightning, contentment has been consumed by the desire for wealth, virtues have been consumed by the jealous, snakes and wild animals have consumed the forest, kings have been consumed by the wicked, fickleness has consumed the wealthy; Then what is such a thing, which is not in the clutches of some other destructive thing?
