Prashna • Chapter 1 • Shloka 13
अहोरात्रो वै प्रजापतिस्तस्याहरेव प्राणो रात्रिरेव रयिः।
प्राणं वा एते प्रस्कन्दन्ति ये दिवा रत्या संयुज्यन्ते ब्रह्मचर्यमेव तद्यद्रात्रौ रत्या संयुज्यन्ते ॥
Day and night indeed are Prajāpati.
Of the two, the day is Prāṇa (life-force), and the night is Rayi (matter).
Those who engage in sexual union during the daytime dissipate their vital energy.
But those who unite during the night are acting in accordance with the natural order; this is regarded as being in harmony with brahmacarya.
