दक्षिणायनमित्युक्तं पिङ्गलायामिति श्रुतिः। इडापिङ्गलयोः संधिं यदा प्राणः समागतः ॥ अमावास्या तदा प्रोक्ता देहे देहभृतां वर ।
The movement of Prāṇa into Piṅgalā is called Dakṣiṇāyana, according to the sacred tradition.
When Prāṇa reaches the junction of Iḍā and Piṅgalā, then, O best of embodied beings,
that state within the body is called Amāvāsyā (the new-moon phase).
