आचिनोति हि शास्त्रार्थानाचारस्थापनादपि।
स्वयमाचरते यस्तु तस्मादाचार्य उच्यते ॥
He who properly understands the meaning of the scriptures and not only establishes good conduct but also follows the same behavior (good conduct) himself is called an Acharya.
