आचार्यों वेदसंपन्नो विष्णुभक्तो विमत्सरः । मन्त्रज्ञो मन्त्रभक्तश्च सदामन्त्राश्रयः शुचिः ॥
गुरुभक्तिसमायुक्तः पुराणज्ञो विशेषवित्। एवं लक्षणसंपन्नो गुरुरित्यभिधीयते ॥
The person who is endowed with Vedas, knowledgeable of mantras, devotee of mantras, one who takes shelter of mantras, scholar of Puranas, expert, pure, without jealousy, devotee of Vishnu and devotee of Guru, is endowed with such qualities is called ‘Guru’.
