ईक्षतेर्नाशब्दम् ॥
Because (the scriptures attribute conscious thought and deliberation to the First Cause), Pradhāna (the insentient primordial matter of the Sāṅkhyas) cannot be (the First Cause spoken of in the scriptures); for it (Pradhāna) is not supported by the scriptural teaching.
