श्री ब्रह्मसूत्राणि॥
॥ अथ प्रथमोऽध्यायः॥
अथातो ब्रह्मजिज्ञासा ॥
Now (after attaining the requisite spiritual qualifications), therefore (having understood that the results of sacrifices and other worldly pursuits are impermanent, while the fruit of the knowledge of Brahman is eternal), one should undertake an inquiry (into the true nature) of Brahman (which is obscured by doubt due to the differing views of various philosophical schools)
