Jester— (Laughing) Just as a person, tired of eating rich dates (fine-quality dates), develops a desire for tamarind (tintiṇī), in the same way you, who have enjoyed the company of precious women, now have this desire. King— You speak this way because you have not yet seen (Śakuntalā). Jester— Surely she must be charming, if even you are filled with wonder because of her. King— My friend, what is the use of saying more? When I reflect upon the creative power (power of formation) of the Creator (Brahmā) and upon the form of that (Śakuntalā), she appears to me as though the Creator first painted her in a picture, then breathed life (instilled living spirit) into it, and fashioned that extraordinary (unique and incomparable) jewel among women from the very essence of beauty through the power of imagination.
