Abhijnanashakuntalam • Chapter 2 • Shloka 15
द्वितीयः- गौतम, अयं सः बलभित्सखो दुष्यन्तः ?
प्रथमः--अथ किम् ।
द्वितीयः- तेन हि ।
नैतच्चित्रं यदयमुदधिश्यामसीमां धरित्री मेकः कृत्स्नां नगरपरिघप्रांशुबाहर्भुनक्ति । आशंसन्ते समितिषु सुरा बद्धवैरा हि दैत्यैरस्याधिज्ये धनुषि विजयं पौरुहूते च वज्रे ।।
Second Sage—
Gautama, is this the same Duṣyanta who is the friend of Indra?
First Sage—
Who else could it be?
Second Sage—
That explains why this (King Duṣyanta), whose mighty arms are like the bars of a city gate, alone (by himself) protects the entire earth bordered by the dark-colored ocean — this is no wonder.
For the gods, who maintain firm enmity (hostility) with the demons, place their hope of victory in battles upon the drawn bow of this (King Duṣyanta) and upon Indra’s thunderbolt.
That is, in war the gods expect victory only through the aid of this king’s bow and Indra’s vajra.
