Chapter 8 — Moksa
Ashtavakra Gita
4 Shloka • Translation Only
Aṣṭāvakra
said: Bondage exists when the
mind
(Citta)
desires something, grieves over something, rejects something, clings to something, rejoices over something, or becomes angry about something.
Liberation exists when the
mind
(Citta)
neither desires nor grieves, neither rejects nor clings, neither rejoices nor becomes angry.
Bondage exists when the
mind
(Citta)
is attached to any viewpoint, belief, or perception. Liberation exists when the mind is unattached to all viewpoints and perceptions.
When there is no "I"
(ego-sense)
, there is
Liberation
. When the "I" arises, there is
bondage
. Knowing this, live with ease: neither grasp at anything, nor seek to reject anything.
