Chapter 5 — Laya

Ashtavakra Gita
4 Shloka • Translation Only
Aṣṭāvakra said: You are not attached to anything whatsoever. Being ever pure, what is it that you seek to renounce? Let the aggregate of body, mind, and all compounded identifications dissolve, and in this very way, abide in dissolution into your true nature.
This universe arises from you, like a bubble arising from the ocean. Knowing the Ātman to be the One Reality, abide in that understanding and merge into your true nature.
Though directly perceived, this universe has no true reality. In you, the stainless One, it does not truly exist. Like the appearance of a snake in a rope, it merely seems to be manifest. Knowing this, abide in dissolution into your true nature.
Being equal in pleasure and pain, complete in yourself, the same in hope and despair, and regarding life and death alike, thus abide and merge into your true nature.
