Chapter 19 — Svamahima
Ashtavakra Gita
8 Shloka • Translation Only
King Janaka
said: Taking hold of the forceps of
Knowledge of Truth
(Tattva-vijñāna)
and applying them within the depths of my heart, I have extracted the thorn of countless doubts, notions, and conflicting ideas.
For me, who am established in my own true greatness, where is
Dharma
? Where is
Kāma
? Where is
Artha
? And where is discrimination between things? Where is
duality
? And where is
non-duality
?
For me, who am established in my own true greatness, where is the
past
? Where is the
future
? And where is even the
present
? Where is
space
? And where is the
eternal
?
For me, who am established in my own true greatness, where is the
Self
? And where is the
non-Self
? Where is the
auspicious
? And where is the
inauspicious
? Where is
thought
? And where is the absence of thought?
For me, who am established in my own true greatness, where is
dream
? Where is
deep sleep
? And where is the
waking state
? Where is
Turīya
? And where is
fear
?
For me, who am established in my own true greatness, where is
distance
? And where is
nearness
? Where is the
outer
? And where is the
inner
? Where is the
gross
? And where is the
subtle
?
For me, who am established in my own true greatness, where is
death
? And where is
life
? Where are the
worlds
? And where are worldly affairs? Where is
dissolution
? And where is
Samādhi
?
Enough of discussions concerning the
three aims of life
(Dharma, Artha, and Kāma)
. Enough also of discussions concerning
Yoga
. Enough of discussions concerning
Knowledge
as well. For I am at rest in my own
Self
.
