This Upanishad is related to Atharvaveda. In this, the complete description of 'Yoga Vidya' is presented in the form of questions and answers between Maharishi Shandilya and Muni Atharva. It has a total of three chapters. The first chapter is detailed with 11 sections.
It begins with Shandilya Rishi's question about Ashtangyoga as a way to attain the soul. Mahamuni Atharva gives a detailed description of Ashtangyoga in response to this. He proves its speciality with Patanjaliyoga by describing Yama-Niyama as ten each. He especially mentions the process of Nadi Shodhan, through which Pran-Jai can be achieved and one can become the owner of many Siddhis. In the second chapter, Rishi Shandilya asked Mahamuni Atharva the secret of Brahma Vidya, in response to which Mahamuni talked about the omnipresent nature of Brahma, his indescribability, his supernatural form and said that 'you are that Brahma, know him through knowledge'.
In the third chapter, Rishi Shandilya again asked that how can the Brahma, which is one, indestructible, inactive, Shiva, only existence and soul form, create, sustain and destroy the world? In response to this, Mahamuni talked about the gross, nishkal and gross-nishkal distinction of Brahma and said that the creation, development and dissolution of the universe keeps happening with the mere will of Brahma in his gross-nishkal form. In the end, while presenting the explanation of the words Brahma, soul, Maheshwar and Dattatreya, he said to keep meditating on the original divine man Dattatreya and also said that by this meditation, man becomes free from all sins and becomes entitled to the ultimate welfare (moksha).
