About this Scripture
Nitishtakam is one of the three famous Shatakas of Bhartrihari, which are called 'Shatakatraya'. There are hundred verses related to policy in this. In Nitishatak, Bhartrihari has composed verses related to policy based on his experiences and dependent on public behaviour. On the one hand, he has condemned ignorance, greed, wealth, wickedness, arrogance etc. and on the other hand, has also praised the qualities of knowledge, gentleness, generosity, self-respect, tolerance, truth etc. The verses of Nitishatak have been quoted not only in Sanskrit scholars but in all Indian languages from time to time in the form of aphorisms. Sanskrit scholar and commentator Bhudhendra has divided the policy into the following parts, which are called 'methods' - Idiocy Scholarship Honor-Valor Artha Vicious Sujan Philanthropy Patience Divine Karma In the following policy verse, the poet has very beautifully presented the importance of money - यस्यास्ति वित्तं स नरः कुलीनः स पंदितः स श्रुतवान गुणग्यः । स एव वक्ता स च धर्णियाः सर्वे गुणाः कचन्मशरयन्ते॥ (Meaning - One who has wealth, he is considered noble, learned, learned and virtuous. He is also counted as a speaker and beautiful. All qualities are dependent on gold.)
