About this Scripture
This Upanishad is related to Shukla Yajurveda. In accordance with its name, the subject of realization of the soul is propounded. In the Aja (unborn) form it is numbered among all the Charachar components; But they (creatures) do not know this. Explaining this, on the basis of sutras like 'Soham' and 'Tatvamasi', instructions have been given to rise above the body and vices and remain engaged in self-cultivation. Rising above the states of dream, deep sleep etc., it is said that in the state of Nirvikalpa Samadhi, there is a connection with the divine element. This samadhi state is called 'Dharmamedha' and it is suggested to attain the state of liberation by absorbing all the instincts in it. While describing the state of Jivanmukta, it has been explained that in that state the destiny karma also comes to an end; But it has been made clear that one has to suffer the consequences of the deeds done before attaining the said state. Like the sensual tendencies, the destiny karmas also bind only those who are conscious of the body. The tradition of transmission of this Upanishadic knowledge has been described while describing what reward the disciple gets when he attains such a state by following the Guru's discipline.
